There are two types of chick peas that are commercially grown. The two commercial types of chick peas produced are Kabuli and Desi. Kabuli chick peas are also known as garbanzo beans. Chickpeas are a helpful source of zinc, folate and protein. Chick peas can be eaten, hot, cold, and most commonly as hummus. Chick peas are also very high in dietary fiber and hence a healthy source of carbohydrates for persons with insulin sensitivity or diabetes.
